Legal Training for Startups

Recent research shows apparently 82% admit on occasionally stealing ideas from co-workers. Do you want to be one of the victims? Most of our answer will surely be ‘no’. Thinking about those entrepreneurs, Bangladesh Venture Capital Ltd has organized a training session on 23rd January 2019 for the first time on “Legal Training for Startups” to protect precious Business ideas.
The session was started with the speech of Golam Monowar Kamal, Managing Director of BVCL on Business and revenue model. Mohammad Shibli Shahriar, Associate Professor and Head of DIE presented “what you need to know before starting a business”, Md. Rashadul Islam, Operation Manager, BVCL And Advocate, Maliha Islam, Research Associate of BVCL described everything in detail from beginning to the end.
A robust patent or copyright can help to attract investors, since it may serve as an entry barrier against competitors. Trademarks can appreciate in value over time with continuous brand awareness through social media platforms. The more the reputation grows, the more value they create for the startup. Thus, trademarks, patent & copyrights can potentially lead the way for growth and expansion of the business.

Bangladesh Venture Capital Ltd is now the Alternative Investment Fund Manager

Bangladesh Venture Capital Ltd (BVCL) has been awarded the ‘Alternative Investment Fund Manager’ Certificate by Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC) under Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (Alternative Investment) Rules, 2015 on 4 Dec 2018. As a Fund Manager, Bangladesh Venture Capital Ltd will be able to raise and manage the Venture Capital, Private Equity and Impact Fund in Bangladesh and abroad.
Golam Momowar Kamal, Managing Director of BVCL has expressed his gratitude to all concerns who extended their support to achieve this certificate. He also added BVCL will give the highest value to the potential business and startups that offers the best solution to an existing problem exists in the society and contribute to economic growth and build a better Bangladesh.
Md. Sabur Khan, Chairman, BVCL and High Commissioner of Bangladesh, World Business Angels Investment Forum (WBAF) said, “Bangladesh is a perfect place for developing entrepreneurs as we got the most talented young generation and the lifestyle of the peoples helps them to get the leadership skills which is a very important quality for becoming an entrepreneur”. Workshop on How to Get Funding for your Startup?

Daffodil Business Incubator (DBI) has organized a session on ‘How to Get Funding for your Startup?’ in association with Bangladesh Venture Capital Ltd (BVCL) and Department of Innovation and Entrepreneurship, Daffodil International University for e- Commerce Association of Bangladesh (E-Cab) at Daffodil Business Incubator Building on December 13, 2018. E-CAB and BVCL have been working jointly to develop a favorable ecosystem for the e-commerce entrepreneur by not only providing fund but also building awareness to the entrepreneurs by offering a wide range of assistance they required for their growth. The Training session started with a welcome address by Golam Monowar Kamal, Managing Director of Bangladesh venture capital (BVCL) and followed by other discussions on funding and Investment opportunities. The speakers discussed the Venture capital & its Funding process, business proposals, valuation and important issues regarding startup funding and the advantages it can bring to the society.

Next Year Planning Meeting

Bangladesh Venture Capital Team organized a strategic planning meeting with Dr. Md. Sabur Khan, Chairman, Bangladesh Venture Capital Ltd on the revenue planning of FY 2019. Mr. Khan also added a few strategies with their next year plan.

DIU and BVCL Jointly Created a Startup Fund for Daffodil Student and Alumni

Daffodil International University (DIU) and Bangladesh Venture Capital Ltd (BVCL) initiated a joint entrepreneurship fund to support student’s startup funding. Through this funding students from any department will be able to apply for seed funding less than 5 Lac. This initiative is open to any existing students of DIU and Alumni. Besides investment, they will also get mentoring, co-working spaces and other supports related to doing business. Bachelor is the first organization who got money from the fund to expand their business. Daffodil Business Incubator also mentoring their business initiative to grow first. Bachelor is the brainchild of CSE Students of Daffodil International University. They are selling food to the customer monthly basis. They also provide small event catering support. 120 customers are regularly getting their food and number is increasing day by day. Bachelor has already got a contract to provide food to the leading service providing platform Sheba.xyz in their corporate HQ in Gulshan. To know about the funding they can also contact with Md. Funding Opportunity for E-Cab Members

A meeting was held between Bangladesh Venture Capital Ltd (BVCL) and E-commerce Association of Bangladesh (E-Cab) on 22 November 2018 at BVCL Conference Room. Razib Ahmed, Director of International Affairs, NasimaAkterNisha, Joint Secretary and a good numbers of members of E-cab members were also present in the meeting. GolamMonowar Kamal, MD, BVCL assure them BVCL will organize a training session with the help of Department of Innovation and Entrepreneurship, Daffodil International University for the E-cab members. From the training, they will know about the process of getting fund from Venture Capital.

In the first month, Daffodil Business Incubator (DBI) gets Nine (10) startups with 15 members. Now DBI is another hub of the entrepreneurial ecosystem. DBI Co-working facility is modernizing day by day to maintain the International standard. A regular student of Daffodil Family can get their office within 5 Minutes by giving 500 Tk. membership fees. External members are paying 3000 Tk. for the executive membership. Workshop on ‘Funding Mechanism for Entrepreneurs’ held in the city

Workshop for startup founders and aspiring entrepreneurs on fundraising techniques with the titled ‘Funding Mechanism for Entrepreneurs’ was held. Communication firm Ra'dia Inc. in association with consultancy entity Bizz Solutions Ltd. (BSL) jointly organized the event on Saturday, 24 November. The workshop was held at the Seminar Room of BSL at City Centre in Motijheel. Tina F. Jabeen, Investment Advisor of Startup Bangladesh, ICT Division, GoB and successful Entrepreneur Md. GaziTauhidur Rahman, Managing Director of FM Plastic Industries Ltd. were the ‘Guest of Honor’. Renowned Super Star Group (SSG) presented the event.

Bangladesh Venture Capital Limited & Department of Innovation and Entrepreneurship jointly introduced “Makerspace” for all entrepreneurial-minded students of Daffodil Family. With this initiative, students from inside and outside the Daffodil Family will be able to implement their ideas.

Mr. Mohammad Nuruzzaman has been appointed as the new Chief Executive Officer and Mr. Mohamed Emran Hossain appointed as COO of Daffodil Family from 1st January 2018.This was officially announced by Dr. Md. Sabur Khan, Chairman of Daffodil Family today on December 23, 2017 at a grand reception program held at Banquet Hall of Daffodil Tower. The function was also addressed by Professor Dr. Yousuf M. An international conciliatory seminar on Venture Capital in Bangladesh was held in between Bangladesh Venture Capital Ltd (BVCL) and National Youth Services Council (NYSC) team Sri Lanka.

A team of 15 members from National Youth Services Council (NYSC) Sri Lanka come in Daffodil International University to attend a week long Bangladesh-Sri Lanka Youth Exchange Program 2017 from 22 to 28 November, 2017.

The main topic of this presentation was Venture Capital of Bangladesh, Historical background of VCs, G-Edu Robo, Drone Technology & Agriculture Drone, Digital Manush, Present scenario of VCs in Bangladesh and other startups of BVCL & Innovation Hub etc.

 

Dr. Sabrina Luthfa Karim delivered a lecture on “Innovation System” at the seminar organized by the Bangladesh Venture Capital Ltd.

Bangladesh Venture Capital Ltd. (BVCL) organized this seminar on “Innovation System” to promote the understanding and knowledge about the among the stakeholders, especially start-up companies. Dr. Sabrina discussed the role of uncertainties in following seven stages of innovation development (Technological, Market, Regulatory/institutional, Social/political, Acceptance/legitimacy, Managerial, Timing and Consequence). According to her uncertainties are always embedded in the innovation process. The seminar also discuss various challenges faced by start-up companies and strategy to overcome some of the shortcomings.
